Meta Earth Vote Clears V2.0.17 for Block 14,920,300

Meta Earth said on Sept. 8 that ME Hub validators unanimously approved V2.0.17, with its published on-chain tally showing 100% support across the 48-hour vote from Sept. 6 through Sept. 7 UTC. The result commits operators to a coordinated software change at block 14,920,300, where incompatible nodes will stop synchronizing.

What did validators approve?

Major Event Proposal ID 6 authorizes three specified changes: private-key validation for ME ID addresses and derived subaccounts, check-in support for multiple address types, and revised synchronization logic for RollApp nodes. According to the Meta Earth voting-results notice, every eligible running zone validator participated and voted AGREE; Experience Zone nodes were excluded.

Each eligible validator received one vote, and approval required support from more than 50% of participating running nodes. The published result establishes unanimity but omits the current validator count and individual vote records from the notice. That limits what the 100% figure proves about decentralization. The relevant baseline is Meta Earth’s May 2025 V2.0 vote, when the association reported unanimous participation by 40 validators; the latest disclosure does not show whether that electorate expanded or contracted.

What changes for node operators?

Operators must back up node data, including the ~/.mechain directory, compile or install V2.0.17, and replace the running binary before block 14,920,300. At the activation height, nodes are designed to halt automatically; operators must restart them on the new version and confirm normal block synchronization from their logs. Nodes that remain on the old binary risk falling out of consensus and losing productive uptime.

This is a necessary reliability release, not a demonstrated performance breakthrough. Better RollApp synchronization could reduce operational friction, while address validation narrows the risk of submitting incompatible ME ID or subaccount credentials. However, Meta Earth published no benchmark for synchronization speed, failure rates or resource consumption. It also disclosed no change to fees, staking or rewards, leaving the immediate validator economics defined by maintenance labor and downtime rather than additional revenue.

What should operators measure next?

The approved plan targets Sept. 9 at approximately 00:00 UTC, although block production determines the exact activation time. Meta Earth projects an eight-hour service suspension for restarts and recovery—two hours longer than the six-hour estimate attached to its V2.0.12 upgrade. Both figures are projections, not measured outages.

The next test is therefore block 14,920,300: operators should watch the actual halt-to-recovery interval, the share of validators resuming block production, and whether RollApp nodes return to synchronized height within the projected eight hours.
