JPMorgan brings deposit token JPM Coin to Ethereum

JPMorgan brought its JPM Coin deposit token to Ethereum on Oct. 19, extending onchain dollar transfers to another network for institutional clients, according to Cointelegraph’s report.

The token, ticker JPMD, represents US dollar deposits held at JPMorgan, the bank said in a statement cited by Cointelegraph. A JPMorgan spokesperson told the outlet the token was technically deployed on Ethereum mainnet.

What does JPMD’s Ethereum launch add?

Ethereum gives approved clients another public blockchain on which to transfer the bank’s deposit token. JPMorgan said the expansion builds on JPM Coin’s earlier availability on Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 network, and lets clients move the token across Ethereum and Base within the Ethereum Virtual Machine ecosystem.

JPMorgan launched JPM Coin in November 2025, according to Bloomberg Law’s report. The bank said Ethereum’s liquidity and its existing tokenized assets made it a suitable next network. The Ethereum deployment extends the token’s reach; it does not change what the token represents: deposits held at JPMorgan.

Who can use the token, and for what?

Access remains limited to approved institutional participants, Cointelegraph reported. JPMorgan says JPM Coin supports peer-to-peer transfers between institutional clients, and the bank’s Kinexys Labs head Emma Landriault said crypto companies could use it for blockchain payments while financial institutions could use it to settle trades and post collateral.

JPMorgan describes the token as a way to move money alongside digital assets and counterparties onchain. Cointelegraph reported that eligible clients can transfer funds within seconds and around the clock. The token is not open to retail users, and the announcement does not say that anyone can mint or hold it through a public-facing service.

What will show whether the Ethereum rollout gains traction?

Client use and transaction activity will show how much the Ethereum deployment adds in practice. JPMorgan’s announcement did not report JPMD’s transaction volume, the number of participating clients on Ethereum or a rollout schedule beyond saying the token is available to institutional clients.
