Where Should You Move Tokens After a Migration?
Choose a post-migration destination by checking the new contract, network, custody support, fees, liquidity and deadline before moving or swapping tokens.

After a token migration, send the new asset only to a destination that supports its new contract on the correct network. The project’s migration instructions should identify the replacement token and the approved conversion route; choose a wallet or exchange only after checking those details.
How do you verify the new token?
Match the token contract address and network in the project’s official migration notice before accepting or sending the replacement asset. A familiar name or ticker is not enough: a token with the same symbol can have a different contract, and a destination may support one version but not another.
Check whether the project requires a swap, a claim, or an automatic exchange conversion. If you plan to trade after migrating, read when quickswap beats separate swaps for the wallet trade-off; the migration route itself should still come from the project’s notice.
Should you use a wallet or an exchange?
A self-custody wallet gives you direct control of the new tokens, but you must choose the right network and pay any required transaction fees. An exchange may handle a migration for customers, but only if its own notice confirms support for the specific old and new assets.
Before choosing, compare these points:
- Network: Does the destination accept the replacement token on the migration’s stated chain?
- Control: Will you hold the tokens yourself, or will the exchange custody them?
- Cost: Are there network fees, conversion charges, or withdrawal fees?
- Timing: Is there a claim window or a deadline for deposits and withdrawals?
For most holders, a wallet they already control is the simplest destination if it supports the new network and contract. An exchange can be more practical when the holder intends to trade and the exchange explicitly confirms migration support.
When should you swap or move the tokens?
Separate the migration from any later trade. First confirm that the replacement tokens arrived at the intended destination; then compare the available trading route, fees, liquidity and expected price impact before swapping.
Do not approve a transaction or sign a message solely because a site uses the project’s name. Verify the migration page through the project’s established channels, and check transaction details in your wallet before confirming.
The project’s official notice should establish the supported contract, conversion method and deadlines. Until it does, exchange support, fees and the final migration schedule may remain unconfirmed.
