Solana decentralized exchange Orca and lending platform Loopscale announced a merger on Oct. 7, combining trading, credit and vault infrastructure under the Formation name. The company announcement says Formation aims to give emerging assets a path from issuance to financing and liquidity.
Loopscale co-founder Luke Truitt will lead Formation as CEO. The companies say both protocols will remain the foundation of the ORCA and xORCA token network as Formation develops unified tools for issuers and capital allocators.
How will Formation combine Orca and Loopscale?
Formation plans to pair Orca’s trading and liquidity infrastructure with Loopscale’s credit and vault products. The Decrypt report says the setup is intended to let issuers launch assets with trading and credit available from the start.
The companies reported that Orca has processed more than $550 billion in trading volume since 2021, while Loopscale has more than $150 million in deposits and has facilitated over $2 billion in loans. Those figures describe the existing platforms, not capital committed to Formation’s target industries.
Which sectors and products is Formation targeting?
Formation says it wants to support financing for AI, energy, robotics and defense companies. The company says traditional capital markets can be costly for smaller or less standardized deals, and that its platform will work across asset origination, issuance, liquidity, credit and distribution.
Formation is already working with Figure, Shinhan Asset Management, Superstate, R3 and Securitize, according to the announcement. It plans to introduce issuer tools and new capital allocation strategies over the next 12 months, alongside existing trading, lending and vault offerings.
What remains unclear about the merger?
The companies did not disclose financial terms, Decrypt reported. Formation’s announcement also says planned products depend on legal and regulatory requirements and may not be available in all jurisdictions or to U.S. persons.
The next stated step is the rollout of new issuer tools and allocation strategies during the coming year. The companies have not disclosed a merger price or detailed launch dates for those products.
